Last evening, Erin, Tay and I went to 7:00 pm Mass followed by dinner at Cheesecake Factory--Father Dan did a beautiful sermon on John the Baptist--of which it was the celebration of St. John's nativity--very interesting point was that only 3 nativities are celebrated in the Catholic church--Jesus, Mary and St. John the Baptist. His point was that we are called by Baptism to be "priests, Prophets and Kings." And he reminded us that we should all remember our Baptismal dates...(gonna have to research mine.) Erin's comment was --oh good--another day to get presents! I think she heard "priests, prophets and princesses!

Anyways--nice dinner and discussions and the kids agreed we should make a point to go to Sunday evening service once a month and then go out to dinner.

But here's my "little story." After dinner I went outside to indulge in a smoke and sitting outside by himself, was a young man in a wheelchair. He had a very strong upper body but his legs were tiny. I said hello and politely asked if he was enjoying the evening. He replied that it was fine, but there's not much to do on a Sunday--I asked if he went to church--and he said he used to go with his dad. So I (of course) encouraged him to go back--that it always started the week off right for me, etc...I asked what he did for a living and he said "nothing right now" and I asked what he wanted to do--He said he wanted to be a massage therapist--and i encouraged him to go for his dream---as I was leaving, I walked over and introduced myself, thanked him for induging in my little "sermon" about returning to church, etc...He said "my name is John!" I said well--today is the feast day of St. John the Baptist! So don't forget you are called to be "priest, prophet and king!"

God is not so mysterious after all!
